Un spectacle sans cesse différent au gré des saisons. Bienvenue aux cascades du Hérisson !
Depuis 2002, il s’agit d’un site naturel classé et depuis 2017 un Grand Site de France.
Pourquoi un tel nom ? Il n’y a aucun rapport avec l’animal, car il s’agit du torrent nommé « Hérisson » qui provient de « Yrisson » qui signifie « eau sacrée ».
Il est un affluent de l’Ain, naît de l’union de 2 ruisseaux dont l’un vient du lac d’Ilay et l’autre du lac de Bonlieu (union au Pic de l’aigle).
Cette vallée compte 31 sauts successifs.
Vous l’aurez compris, il s’agit de suivre le torrent pour admirer les cascades. En parallèle, vous découvrez des vestiges historiques et quelques explications.
L’eau et sa force ont toujours attiré l’Homme. Par conséquent, grâce au Hérisson, ils pouvaient moudre le grain, forger des outils, fabriquer des clous…

Aux cascades du Hérisson, Il existe de nombreux accès pour découvrir les cascades en totalité ou en partie.
1. L’éventail : la prestigieuse et impressionnante cascade (quand le débit de l’eau est important). Cette cascade baptisée ainsi en 1905 doit son nom à la forme que prend l’eau sur la paroi rocheuse. Visible au sommet, au pied, ou au niveau d’un belvédère.
2. Le Grand saut : Visible de plus loin, elle reste impressionnante avec ses 60 mètres de haut. Nommée ainsi depuis 1905, elle est voisine avec la grotte Lacuzon (nom provenant du capitaine La Cuson, héros de l’indépendance comtoise et opposant à l’annexion de la Franche-Comté par la France au XVIIème siècle. Une légende raconte qu’il se serait caché à l’intérieur).
3. Le Gour bleu : Chute d’environ 10 mètres qui retombe dans une vasque. Nommée ainsi depuis 1897.
4. Le Château Garnier doit son nom à Jean-Joseph Garnier qui rachète, au début du XIXème siècle la maison-moulin (maison de 1680 utilisée pour la culture du chanvre transformée en moulin) pour y vivre avec son domestique jusqu’en 1834.
5. Lieu du « Saut de la Boille » (forge hydraulique construite par les moines). « Boille » symbolise un récipient qui a la même forme que la base de la chute d’eau. La cascade Saut de la forge est nommée ainsi depuis 1902.
6. Le Moulin Jeunet est construit au XVème siècle par les villageois du FRASNOIS. Il sera abandonné puis racheté par Séraphin-François JEUNET en 1882 qu’il utilise jusqu’en 1902.
7. Le Saut Girard est une cascade de 35 mètres de haut. Son appellation fait référence au moine Girard qui s’est volontairement jeté du haut de la cascade. En amont, fut construit une clouterie par les moines de Bonlieu. L’activité sera reprise et maintenue jusqu’en 1911.

Since 2002, it has been a classified natural site and since 2017 a Great Site of France. Why such a name ? There is no connection with the animal, because it is the torrent named “Hedgehog” which comes from “Yrisson”which means“holy water ».
It is a tributary of the Ain, which arises from the union of 2 streams, one of which comes from Lake Ilay and the other from Lake Bonlieu (union with the Eagle Peak).
This valley has 31 successive jumps.
You will have understood it, it is a question of following the torrent to admire the waterfalls. At the same time, you will discover historical remains and some explanations.
Water and its strength have always attracted Man. Consequently, thanks to the Hedgehog, they could grind grain, forge tools, make nails…

Sinds 2002 is het een geklasseerd natuurgebied en sinds 2017 een “Grand Site de France”.
Waarom zo’n naam? Er is geen verband met het dier, want het is de beek genaamd « Hérisson » die komt van « Yrisson » wat « heilig water » betekent.
Het is een zijrivier van de Ain, ontstaan uit de samenvloeiing van 2 stromen, de ene afkomstig van het meer van Ilay en de andere van het meer van Bonlieu (samenvloeiing bij de Pic de l’aigle).
Deze vallei heeft 31 opeenvolgende sprongen.
U snapt het al, het is een kwestie van de stroom volgen om de watervallen te bewonderen. Tegelijkertijd ontdekt u historische overblijfselen en enkele verklaringen.
Water en zijn kracht hebben de mens altijd aangetrokken. Daarom konden ze, dankzij de Hérisson, graan malen, gereedschap smeden, spijkers maken…

Bij de watervallen van de Hérisson zijn er verschillende manieren om de watervallen helemaal, of gedeeltelijk, te ontdekken :
1. L’éventail : prestigieuze en indrukwekkende waterval (als het waterdebiet belangrijk is). Deze waterval, die in 1905 zijn naam kreeg, werd zo genoemd dood de form die het water neemt op de rotswand. Je kunt het zien op de top, aan de voet, of vanaf een uitkijkpunt.
2. Le Grand saut : van verder weg, blijft hij indrukwekkend met zijn 60 meter hoogte. Zo genoemd sinds 1905, hij ligt naast de grot Lacuzon (genoemd naar kapitein La Cuson, held van de Comtoise onafhankelijkheid en tegenstander van de annexatie van Franche-Comté door Frankrijk, in de 17e eeuw. Een legende vertelt dat hij zich binnenin verborgen zou hebben).
3. Le Gour bleu : een waterval van ongeveer 10 meter die in een bassin valt. Zo genoemd sinds 1897.
4. Kaastel Garnier : het kasteel dankt zijn naam aan Jean-Joseph Garnier, die het molenhuis aan het begin van de 19e eeuw kocht om er tot 1834 met zijn knecht te gaan wonen. ( Het is een huis uit 1680 dat werd gebruikt voor de teelt van hennepen werd omgebouwd tot molen)
5. Saut de la forge : Plek van de « Saut de la Boille » (hydraulische smederij gebouwd door de monniken). « Boille » symboliseert een recipiënt die dezelfde vorm heeft als de basis van de waterval. Het is er sinds 1902 naar genoemd.
6. De Moulin Jeunet werd in de 15e eeuw gebouwd door de dorpelingen van FRASNOIS. Het werd daarna verlaten, en vervolgens in 1882 gekocht door Séraphin-François JEUNET, die het tot 1902 gebruikte.
7. De “Saut Girard” is een waterval van 35 meter hoog. De naam verwijst naar de monnik Girard die zich vrijwillig van de top van de waterval wierp. Daarvoor werd een spijkersmederij gebouwd door de monniken van Bonlieu. De activiteit zal worden hervat en gehandhaafd tot 1911.
